Job 23:1-27:23 As a mother of three growing boys and a husband who all love to eat, I spent most of my time in the kitchen cooking for this hungry brood. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is found in Psalm 86, where a verse reads, “He delivered my hands from the pots.” I have been standing on this promise for years, but I find myself still cooking.
Another promise the Lord gave me is in this passage of Job. One day after sweating in the kitchen putting together one more meal for these meat-and-potato men, I heard the Lord speak to my heart: “The day will come when your family will count My Word as more important than their necessary food.” When I heard this word I did not know it was in the Scriptures, but later I found it in Job 23:12: “I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.”
It was almost too good to be true. Could it be that the day would come when the first thing the boys did before they ate breakfast was to read God’s Word? Could it be that one day some of my men would even miss a meal in order to fast and seek God? Could it be that one day my hands truly would be delivered from the pots? Yes, it could be!! Hallelujah!! I have seen this promise fulfilled in the lives of my men. They still love to eat, but they now eat to live instead of living to eat. Their lives are sold out to Jesus, and they esteem His Word highly. His Word is the daily bread we need. Don’t miss any meals feasting with God in His Word this week.
