Becket Cook knew from a young age that he was attracted to men. And as he grew up and pursued his dream of designing fashion sets in L.A., he also plunged into the gay lifestyle.
Cook thought he had it all. He partied at famous actors’ homes and attended Oscars, Grammy Awards and Golden Globes. But suddenly, Cook realized it wasn’t enough for him.
“I sort of had this moment in March 2009,” he says on the “Charisma News” podcast. “I was at Paris Fashion Week, and I went to a bunch of shows and after parties, and while I was at an after party … I just had this overwhelming sense of emptiness. I was like, ‘Wow, this isn’t going to do it for me anymore.'”
Cook was up all that night wondering what he was going to do. He knew he couldn’t just keep living the way he was.
So God set him up. One day while at a coffee shop, Cook and his gay best friend started talking to a group of people having a Bible study nearby. They started talking to the group, and soon it came out that they were Christians who believed homosexuality was a sin. But for some reason, Cook wasn’t turned away by that.
“They invited me to their church the following Sunday,” Cook says.
When he went, he was not ready for the glorious encounter he had with the Holy Spirit.
“I was being really blown away by the gospel,” he says. “Then afterward, [the pastor] invited people to get prayed for at the side of the church by [the] prayer ministry, … so I walked over to this guy and said, ‘Hey I’m here, but I don’t know what I believe.’ And he started praying for me and it seemed really intense, powerful, the prayer. It was really loving. … I was processing all that, and all of a sudden, the Holy Spirit flooded my body. God revealed Himself to me in that moment.”
