He says he sang in churches without caring about religion, but now musician Brennan Strawn is telling his testimony through social media.
“You wouldn’t know it on the outside; but I spent the last 20 years of my life as an addict, liar, cheat, and a fraud,” Strawn begins. “Nothing fixed me – not religion, therapy, marriage, women, success, friends, alcohol, drugs, books, church..you name it, I tried it and failed.”
Strawn, who is now part of OneRepublic’s side project Monarch, tells his fans and followers he felt so overwhelmed, he attempted to hang himself in August.
But God had a different plan.
“That even in the moment when I was hanging from my door of my apartment, someone was holding up my feet..someone wanted that rope to break,” he writes. “Hope wasn’t lost.”
Strawn writes that something led him to a church that night, and as he let his guard down, he begin to let forgiveness seep in. That’s when the Holy Spirit came into play.
“After it was over, a woman saw me crying and asked to pray for me (ya I cry a lot, I’m an artist :/). After she prayed for me something filled my body with an intensity that can only be described as a rushing energy – it started at my feet and reached the top of my head feeling like it could light my hair on fire..and with all the hairspray I had on at the time, it could’ve burned down the building. I was standing there speechless …” Strawn continues.
Strawn isn’t new to the Christian spotlight. His album, Lowly, caught the attention of several media outlets.
In 2008, Strawn refused to categorize himself as a “Christian” musician, but couldn’t imagine separating faith from his music.
“As long as I expose myself and stay as honest as I can, the Christian themes will always be there,” Strawn said at the time.
Now, it appears God has brought Strawn back into the fold to minister to the broken-hearted.
“Know this –
“He’s thinking of you, He’s crying over what you’re crying over
“He cares about the things you care and worry about ..
“He wants so desperately to hold you, bless you, love you, and bring you joy that is not comparable to anything that comes from this world,” Strawn writes.
Strawn’s Facebook post has garnered thousands of likes and shares and hundreds of comments.
Several of his fans and followers commented their prayers and excitement for the musician.
“You’re a powerhouse for God already! God’s passion for you is so amazing,Brennan! Thanks for letting Holy Spirit out in this setting – love and blessing,” writes one person.
Another writes: “God bless you for sharing the mercy and love he has for all of us especially in our times of need.”
