God has given us a creative imagination, and it can be used to our benefit or detriment. Talking about the ministry of deliverance and watching movies or hearing stories of how demons manifest can make our imaginations run wild. What is the truth? How do demons manifest?
Demonic manifestations can make the ministry of deliverance seem scary. In deliverance ministry, people run to it or away from it. However, I want to dispel some myths and help you learn how demons manifest and that it isn’t always severe. I want to lead you to and through the ministry of deliverance, which is a powerful and beautiful thing to have manifest in your life.
Demons manifested on Jesus. I taught about this recently on Charisma magazine, “How Demons Can Manifest and What to Look for to Combat Them,” and my recent podcast, How Demons Manifest While Being Evicted. Jesus experienced what I will label as more severe demonic manifestations. In the presence of the Lord, according to the Gospels, we learn that demons manifested on Jesus.
When we cast out a demonic spirit, we usually say something similar to, “Spirit of [insert spirit’s name, such as ‘Rejection’] get out, in Jesus’ name. When we have released forgiveness towards others and received forgiveness for ourselves, it looses the demonic stronghold, and the demon must leave. By taking authority over the evil spirit as instructed, “Look, I give you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. And nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19), the demon must leave.
When casting a demon out of yourself or another person, how do you know or discern if the demon has left? Some people have the gift of discernment or can see into the spiritual realm, and they can see or feel the demon has left. How does a person without the gift of discernment operate in general discernment? In my book, Discerning and Destroying the Works of Satan, I give a complete list of how to know if demons have left.
There are simple ways to know if a demon has been evicted. During our prayer time or while ministering to another, the demon being expelled could cry, yawn or cough. The person could feel peace, a shift or change within themselves. They may have been experiencing a stomach ache or pain during the prayer session and now feel released from that manifestation. A demon can expel through natural body reactions and other exit points.
When expelling a demon, pray until you feel a release. You want to feel something in the spiritual and natural realm break. What happens in the natural and spiritual is often correlated. Therefore when you are expelling demons, expect to feel a release, peace and freedom; something shifts in both the natural and spiritual to receive freedom.
