Many of us are searching for our purpose. We ask, “What is it God wants me to do?”
Before we answer that question, we need to add “for His kingdom” to its end.
Understanding How Your Need Leads to a Seed in Others
First, we must understand that we each have a kingdom purpose. We must dismantle the idea that our purposes are about benefiting ourselves. That is a blessing and byproduct of how we operate.
We each have a divine purpose assigned to us, according to what is written in the heavenly books. This purpose is designed to produce seeds that will multiply, prospering your life and those of others.
That divine purpose is often brought to our attention through a desire or need within our soul. Once we realize the covenant need or desire, it will connect us to our heavenly purpose.
Your divine purpose will expand according to biblical principles when you operate in proper alignment with God and prosper His kingdom.
The blessing and byproduct of discovering your kingdom purpose and managing it with kingdom principles is described in Luke 6:38 (KJV):
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
When you give, you will receive. When you plant, you will reap.
Your Purpose Is Birthed From a Need
But what I’ve discovered is that our purposes are birthed out of a need. Let me explain.
God often burdens our hearts with a desire. That desire is connected to a need we have. Now, I’m not referring to a need for more things. I’m referring to a need to break free from doubt, fear, lack and unbelief.
We need wisdom, discernment and knowledge of the Lord. We need the armor of God. All so that we can be under His mantle of protection as He leads us to our purposes.
To connect the dots from a need to a purpose, we must understand the kingdom principle of multiplication.
Discovering the Principle of Multiplication
As I discovered my physical connection to the Jewish people (I was born an orphan, and my biological mother was Jewish) and uncovered more and more of the Jewish roots of my faith, I realized something. One of the benefits of living in a covenant relationship with the Lord is the gift of multiplication.
There is a principle that was understood in Old Testament times, but somehow, we’ve forgotten in our Westernized culture that things will reproduce according to their kind (Gen. 1:24).
I discovered that a generous spirit leads to abundance, canceling the mindset of lack, doubt and unbelief.
When we operate out of a generous spirit, it reflects the generous nature of our Father. As a result, we get to enjoy the blessings of multiplication.
Here’s How a Need and Generosity Lead to Your Purpose
The generous spirit is tied to the biblical principle of sowing and reaping. In Genesis 1, the Lord explained to Adam and Eve the principle of multiplication. A seed would reproduce according to its kind and would multiply.
Plant a kernel of wheat, and you would get 50 or more seeds from that one head of grain. In other words, when you plant a seed, it is multiplied according to its kind. Wheat produces wheat. Generosity produces generosity.
You see, when the Old Testament prophets recorded the Word of God, such as in the verses below, they understood that following this principle would open doors to blessings and a purpose:
—”Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God” (Deut. 28:1-2, NKJV).
—”The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them” (Deut. 28:12-13).
The Luke 6:38 passage, written above, expands on this multiplication principle. If you have a legal kingdom need, that is, a need that would be used to further God’s kingdom if He met it, you can count on God providing it when you plant a seed into it.
A Biblical Example of a Need Turned Into a Purpose
Hannah was the wife of Elkanah (1 Sam. 1). She was barren and grieved over having no children.
She desired a child. She needed a child. And she promised God that when her need was met, it would benefit God’s kingdom.
God heard her prayers and gave her a son, Samuel. Hannah dedicated her son to God. As a result, Hannah’s need turned into a purpose for God’s chosen people, Israel.
Samuel, growing up serving Eli, the priest, took the seed that was planted within him and prospered it. He became a prophet for Israel, and God continued to reveal His plans through him.
A Modern Example of a Need Turned to Purpose
When I was first burdened with a need to connect to my biological parents, I didn’t know how God would use this for His kingdom. But it was my prayer that He would.
Discovering my Jewish heritage and the roots of my faith revealed my purpose. As a result, God opened doors for our ministry to align with and support His people, Israel.
But here is where multiplication came in—the entire kingdom purpose of aligning with Israel didn’t stop with me. It has overflowed, just as Luke 6:38 describes, because of the generous spirits of so many believers.
What Drives a Kingdom Purpose?
Each act of generosity, prayer and planting is multiplied when it has a kingdom purpose driving it.
So, if you have a kingdom need, sow a kingdom seed. The seed will produce your kingdom purpose!
If you need to grow closer to the Lord, spend time with Him and help someone else grow closer to Him.
If you have a desire to see the next generation stay connected to God’s Word, leave a legacy and live a life that is connected to God’s Word. Sow a seed into someone younger.
God will open the windows of heaven to your purpose when He knows that purpose will work through you to further His kingdom. {eoa}
