The Israelites did not fight in the wilderness; they fought in the promised land. We also cannot hope to obtain the promises of God without a fight. We are being called into partnership with the Spirit to do battle side by side to see the kingdom advance.
Joshua defeated Jericho by the direction of the Spirit. The Israelites broke through against Ai once the Spirit revealed there was sin in the camp. This is how we “through the Spirit put to death the deeds of the body” (Rom. 8:13b). We are to follow the Holy Spirit into the fight and therefore overcome the very things that once overcame us.
This is a fight for the soul of the church. God wants a warring bridal partner who will not cower or back down when the battle comes. God wants a ruling and reigning partner for His Son. We are growing into that partner at the pace of our willingness to face every enemy. People are not our problem; we are not even our own worst enemy—Jesus took care of that. We are to aim our weapons toward the principalities and powers of darkness in order to see the victory Christ has given us become manifest.
This is the nature of breakthrough; it always requires a push. It requires effort. It requires steadfast commitment to the fulfillment of all God has said would be ours.
As the church, we must learn to wield the sword of the Spirit in this hour so we can reclaim the land that has been stolen. This warfare has a certain way about it. This way of waging a battle against the enemy looks like celebration of what has been given us. We fight our battles with praise on our lips and thanksgiving in our hearts. We know who has every victory, and we know that He always leads us in triumph!
