When Life Is Overwhelming, Do This to ‘Turn the Tide’

Turn the tide on your cares and worries with surrendered worship.

One of the most powerful ways we can “turn the tide” of what is going on in our lives and the things going on around us is through our surrendered worship.

Maybe you feel like the tide is against you right now. Realize that you can turn the tide through your simplicity of worship to the Lord. It does not need to be a big display, but it does need to be fresh. Through the spirit of worship we are able to access the realms of glory where revelation flows (Rev. 19:10).

When revelation flows, there is truth present that has the power to make you free. You shall “know” the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:31). The Word of God is truth, but it needs to be accompanied with the spirit of revelation. Just as Jesus told Peter that He would build His church on the rock of revelation.

“Jesus answered him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it’” (Matt. 16:17-18).

What Jesus was referring to here was not a one-time event in Peter’s life or in our lives but a continual flow of the spirit of revelation in us (Eph. 1:17). Without the light of revelation making God’s Word alive to us, it is still just ink on paper. God’s Spirit makes the Word of God alive in our hearts. Through a heart of worship our relationship is made alive thereby propelling us into a place of living light and revelation concerning the truth of God.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Ps. 119:105).

Our worship powerfully transforms us and the atmosphere around us because it has an innate heavenly multifaceted effect on our lives.

Worship: (in the context of vocalization and surrender to God)

It causes us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, making us habitations of God.

It changes the spiritual climates surrounding us.

It refreshes our spirit, soul and body.

It enables us to enter into the courts of the Lord.

It establishes the lordship of Christ in our hearts.

We could go on and on about the different ways our spending time in worship has powerful impact. I encourage you to not only worship, but to ask the Lord to deposit a new song in your heart.

“Speak to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. Give thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Eph. 5:19-20).

You will find that this is the “best” where worshipping with someone else’s song is just “good.” A great mentor and friend, Bob Jones, shared a powerful word with me some years ago. Bob was always great at giving words that were very simple but powerful. The word he shared was that “good is the enemy of the best.” Don’t settle for good when you can have the best. God wants us to have the best! Our Father has a vast rich inheritance for us to access right here and now. Don’t waste your time on leftovers.

Get your fresh bread from the Holy Spirit. Turn the tide of your life through the simplicity of devotion and worship. Don’t allow the enemy to steal the most basic and essential life-giving ingredients for your life. If you need to learn how to worship, then ask the Holy Spirit to help you. Yield yourself to God casting everything you are and have upon Him. Jesus said, “How much more will your Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask!”

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” (Luke 11:13).

Realize that the Holy Spirit is an essential ingredient for your life to flourish. Get your full inheritance. Remember the story of the prodigal son where the Father killed the fattened calf and gave the returned son the signet ring and the robe? The elder brother was hugely upset and complained. The father’s response to the elder son was, “All I have is yours.”

“He said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. But it was fitting to be merry and be glad, for this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found'” (Luke 15:31, emphasis added).

In other words, the father was saying, “It has been here for you the entire time.” The father shows us how this elder son, which represents someone caught up in the rituals of religiosity, never accessed what had rightfully been his all along.

We can’t give thanks and complain at the same time. Realize what your Father has for you and begin to turn the tide through your surrendered heart of worship and thanksgiving today. A fresh heart of worship will break you through to a new place where the rivers of living waters flow freely! Take hold, drink deep and overflow! {eoa}
