It’s one of the greatest battles raging within us. It’s unseen, spiritual and can only be won by relying upon God’s supernatural provision. What is it? It’s the battle between faith and feeling, and God is calling us to overcome it.
With the increase of COVID-19, political struggle, racial tension, vaccine-related controversy and more, people are experiencing emotional levels of fear and anxiety more than ever. The storms of life seem to buffet our boats with little relief in sight. The result is that many have unwittingly come under the leadership of their feelings rather than God’s Holy Spirit.
I understand what it’s like to live by emotions, and for me, it was a tormenting experience—up one day, down the next and all over again. However, when I met Jesus and heard His truth, I came to learn the Father said something downright life-changing. He said,
“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!” (Matt. 17:5b).
Above all things, we need to hear the voice of our Savior, deliverer, counselor, protector, provider and Lord! It created a monumental shift in my life that is ever-growing to this day.
God doesn’t desire for us to live under the influence of our emotions, which change daily. He desires that we live steady and stable lives built upon His unchanging Word.
Every child of God must recognize this great battle and become determined to rise above it. We must acknowledge that our adversary, the devil, works incessantly to get us to live by our emotions rather than by the Spirit of God. Why? Because he wants us to be distracted people who look at the wind and waves rather than Jesus walking upon the water. (See Matt. 14:22-33). In the middle of the storm, Jesus says,
“Be of good cheer. It is I. Do not be afraid” (Matt. 14:27b).
The very presence of Jesus, the Great I Am, invades our emotions, destroys fear and enables us to walk above the circumstances we previously feared.
