Keeping the Flow of God’s Presence in Your Life

Does your spiritual drain become clogged every once in a while?

I’ve been dealing a lot with breakthrough, spiritual clogs and the waters of God’s presence lately. It just seems to be the subject the Lord keeps hitting on. In a previous article, “Breakthrough: The Outburst of His Waters” we talked about how God uses fasting to bring us to a place of breakthrough, awakening and sensitivity to His Spirit.

Would also like to you read another recent article I wrote about “Portals, Breakthrough and Sounds of Refreshing.” God wants His people free to live in His presence. Did you know that He is jealous for us? He does not want any other gods in our lives, but rather that He would be our infatuation and desire.

Here is another article dealing with spiritual clogs and the ways God has given us to walk in the fullness of His presence.

Keeping the Flow In Your Life

When there are clogs in your spiritual drain, it causes stagnancy. If the water of God’s presence is not flowing, there could be a blockage, making our spiritual waters dirty over time.

It is important that we are able to recognize clogs and the things that clog quickly, seeing with the eyes of revelation. The thing is, if we are not accustomed to experience the flow of God’s presence in our lives, then it will be much harder to recognize when things are not as they should be. If oppression is what you are used to, then spiritual clogs may not be obvious.

On the other hand, when a breakthrough does come, you will notice that, because there will be a fresh flow of God’s presence that you’ have not previously experienced.

“Delilah saw that he had told her all his secrets, so she sent for the Philistine rulers, saying, ‘Come up this time, for he has told me all his secrets.’ So the Philistine rulers came up to her and brought the money in their hands. Delilah lulled Samson to sleep on her knees and called for a man to shave off the seven locks of his hair. Then she began to humiliate him, and his strength left him. She said, ‘The Philistines are upon you, Samson.’ Then he awakened from his sleep and thought, ‘I will go out as before and shake myself free of them.’ He did not know that the Lord had left him. The Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes. They took him down to Gaza, bound him with bronze chains, and he ground grain in prison” (Judg. 16:18-21, MEV).

God wants us to live our lives without compromise. It is interesting in this story of Samson that the very first thing the enemy wants to do is take out Samson’s eyes. Did you know that he does the same thing with people who compromise in sin? We need to live clean from the dirt and filth of the world.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father, but is of the world. The world and its desires are passing away, but the one who does the will of God lives forever” (1 John 2:15-17, MEV).

That is the kind of stuff that clogs our spiritual drain. When we have a flow of communion with God in our lives, there is a freshness and flow of the Holy Spirit that is tangible (2 Cor. 13:14). Living in the reality of His presence enables us to see the sin and compromise that clog things up.

Knowing how to break through those clogs is important as well. We have to use humility, spiritual weapons and tools to break open hindrances that stop the flow of God’s presence. It’s all about keeping the flow. God has created us to live in the river of living waters. Repentance from sin, renouncing darkness, asking for cleansing and casting off the oppression of the enemy are all legitimate ways  to open up the flow of God’s Spirit in our lives.

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 8:9, MEV).

A spiritual blockage is not always a sin-related issue; sometimes it’s just because you were exposed to a oppressive atmosphere in a place or person. When this happens, give yourself in worship to God and ask Him to wash you in the river of His presence. Ask for cleansing through the blood of Jesus. I wrote a song a long time ago that goes like this:

“By Your blood and Your Spirit come and dwell within us.
You are welcome … come within us.
We are holy habitations of Your presence.”

Don’t you think God will answer that prayer? He wants us to live in His reality more than we do. Our hearts desire is central to keeping this flow of the Spirit in our lives. We have to want to live experientially with God. It cannot be enough to just “know” some things.

There needs to be a desire to experience God and know that you have something real to share with others. It is the fire of our desire that drives us to pursue God at a higher level of commitment, consecration and dedication.

Surely you shall call a nation that you do not know, and nations that did not know you shall run to you because of the Lord your God, even the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified you” (Is. 55:5, MEV).

Tenacity with God is valuable. This is the attitude that says, “I will not let go until You bless me!” (Gen. 32:26-28). If we don’t have this mindset, we will settle for less. God does not want us to be soft, but diligent, determined and even somewhat demanding.

“May I remember my song in the night; may I meditate in my heart; my spirit made a diligent search” (Ps. 77:6, MEV).

Faith pleases God. He is looking for someone to believe. He will deal with the rest of the quirks in our lives. He wants to see some faith!

This kind of determination will cause breakthroughs to occur in our lives and keep the river of His presence flowing. {eoa}
