What did Jesus do that as believers we aren’t doing?
The other morning, I was in prayer when the Lord took me to Luke 5:16, “But He withdrew to the wilderness and prayed.” The word “withdrew” stuck out to me. Jesus removed Himself from people, ministry and His normal surroundings to pray and be alone with the Father.
When I think of the word “withdrew,” I compare it to military troops who withdraw from a region. When they withdraw, they completely leave. I felt the Lord tell me that is what we need to do. We need to withdraw for a few hours, a few days or even a few weeks and completely give our attention and affections to Him.
How much good quality undivided attention can we give to the Lord if we are still partially engaged by doing the dishes, driving a vehicle or focusing on other things? If we were to have a business meeting or dinner date, we would give that person our undivided attention. Doesn’t the Lord deserve that too?
Withdrawing is pulling out and pulling back. We all need to pull out of things and pull back from things time to time. When we do, clarity of mind will happen, vision will come forth, and we will feel focused and directed. Who better to give us all those things than the Lord Himself? And He does when we spend time with Him.
We are in the 30 days of Elul, which is a time of repentance and turning back to God. Our nation and our families need our prayers and commitment now more than ever. People are in fear, and we need to be “Jesus with skin on” that they see.
We must be in faith and not fear. Being spiritually strong will not only help us to stay in peace but will help us release shalom to others. During this time of repentance and turning back to God, I want to encourage you to withdraw and spend some time alone in the secret place to refresh your soul and gain wisdom and understanding.
