There is a difference between being afraid and having the fear of the Lord. While one may bring reassurance, the other can only cause dissension and force us to drift away from the very source we must cling to, to survive. On this episode of Christ Today on the Charisma Podcast Network, David Bryant uncovers an underlying fear we may have of the Lord without even recognizing that we have it.
Bryant quotes well-known Christian counselor and author John Eldredge, who says, “The word ‘passion’ means ‘to suffer.’ And that is why many Christians are reluctant to listen to their hearts. They know that their dullness in their relationship with Christ is keeping them from feeling the pain of being really alive in Him and living for more of Him. Many of us have chosen simply not to want so much more, because it feels like the safer way to go.”
This, Bryant says, is the underlying fear many of us face. So our dilemma becomes, how do we combat it?
Bryant breaks down this underlying fear to expose the three subconscious fears he says he’s seen resurface in his “struggles to try and rebuild a more passion-driven life with Jesus.” There is hope, however. He goes on to say, “I’m sharing those fears because there’s good news for all who struggle with such fears.”
