Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. —Philippians 3:12
The word apprehended means “taken hold of.” When Paul wrote to the Christians at Philippi, he told them his goal was to take hold of the purpose for which God had taken hold of him.
God has something he wants to do with your life. Before you knew Him, God set in motion the plan He wanted to accomplish. At the right time, He broke through to you and revealed Himself as your Lord and Savior, bringing you to repentance and salvation.
You may not have even been looking for Him at the time, but God knew exactly where to find you. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). He sought you out to bring you in, and He did it for a specific purpose.
Take hold of God’s purpose for your life; zealously pursue it. Press “toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14).
Jesus, Your purpose for me has complete
control in my life. I surrender to Your
purpose, will, and direction. Lead me
deeper and deeper into Your
presence. Amen.
