For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. —Colossians 1:13-15
We have taken God for granted. We have allowed materialism, secularism, and the love of things to smother the flame of God in our souls. We have created God in our own image, an image that is erroneous and tragically inadequate. Many in our generation have made for themselves a God they can use and control—a “heavenly butler” who waits on them hand and foot, catering to their every whim. To some believers, God is warm, approachable, and forgiving. To others, He is cold, aloof, and condemning. Regardless of how we see Him, what you and I think about God is the most important thing about us.
{ PRAYER STARTER }
Forgive me, Father, when I have taken Your great love for granted. Forgive me for selfishly demanding my own will and way. Take the love of things out of my life, and cause me to love only You.
We will eventually be shaped by the image
of God we carry in our minds.
