Although she’s a popular Bible teacher and the daughter of Billy Graham, Anne Graham Lotz admits she has struggled with the discipline of prayer. And she realizes it’s a trouble spot for many other believers as well, which hinders their relationship with Christ.
But as a kingdom warrior, Lotz wants desperately to correct that issue not only in her own life but in the lives of the people she teaches. She has developed a passion to help kickstart believers’ prayer lives, and this passion led her to write her new book, The Light of His Presence: Prayers to Draw You Near to the Heart of God.
“Especially if you’re a Christian leader, you don’t want to admit that prayer is a struggle,” Lotz told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. “But I’ve struggled with consistency, just praying every day, what to say when I pray and just keeping my focus when I pray. Time in prayer has been a struggle for me in those areas.
“I was just asking the Lord to help me to know what He wants me to pray: ‘Please help me.’ So He brought to my mind to write down my prayers. And when I write down my prayers, it helps me with concentration. If you lose your concentration, you can see it on paper. It’s helped me with content, just putting in elements in the prayer that I feel like I should include.
“COVID has actually been a blessing me with to help me with consistency, because I’ve been at home. I’ve never been so consistent in prayer. This little book on prayer comes out of my own experience, and these are my prayers. … They are not meant to be a substitute for other people’s prayers, but just to help them get into their own prayers. Just write down what God has put on your heart.”
