Gospel Music Stars To Perform Tribute to Andraé Crouch

Andrae Crouch

Several gospel music icons will perform a tribute to gospel music Legend, the late Andraé Crouch at the 23rd Annual Movieguide® Faith & Values Awards Gala, to be televised Saturday, February 21 at 7pm ET/4pm PT, on the REELZ TV Channel.

Crouch, 72, died of a heart attack Jan. 8, just weeks after he had confirmed to sing at the Awards.

Crouch was known as the “Father of Modern Gospel.” The seven-time Grammy winner was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1998. His songs were recorded by Elvis Presley and Paul Simon, and he collaborated with Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Elton John, Quincy Jones, and Diana Ross. Crouch led the choirs that sang on the Michael Jackson blockbuster hit “Man in the Mirror” and Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.”

Some of Crouch’s most beloved songs are “The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power” and “Soon and Very Soon,” which was sung at a memorial following Jackson’s death. He also received an Academy Award nomination in 1987 for his composition work on The Color Purple.

Confirmed singers performing the tribute to Crouch include Cece and Marvin Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Take 6, and Tata Vaga.

“Andraé was one of the greats,” said Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide®. “When my wife, Lili, and I, started our ministry in New York City, he came to our apartment to discuss his career. From that moment onward, he was our very dear friend, and it was exciting to see how God blessed his talent and his life throughout the years. He will be missed.”

Author of “The Culture-Wise Family” and “How To Succeed in Hollywood (Without Losing Your Soul),” Dr. Baehr is chairman of the Christian Film & Television Commission® (CFTVC) and its family guide to movies and entertainment, Movieguide® (www.movieguide.org). CFTVC and Movieguide® are an international, non-profit ministry dedicated to “redeeming the values of the entertainment industry by influencing industry executives and by informing and equipping the public about the influence of the entertainment media.”

The Annual Faith & Values Awards Gala honors the best, most family-friendly movies and television programs honoring God and inspiring audiences with messages of faith, hope, goodness, justice, redemption, forgiveness, and true divine love. At the Awards, Dr. Baehr will present highlights from Movieguide®’s 2015 Report to the Entertainment Industry, a comprehensive financial analysis of the movie business showing what kinds of movies and movie content moviegoers favor the most with their hard-earned money.
