Self Talk with Dr. Ray Self covers a lot of issues for the same purpose: Dr. Ray has the heart to see people become all that God created them to be. Satan schemes against God’s people to keep them from functioning in their creative design, but Jesus said the Spirit of the Lord God would heal the brokenhearted and set captives free. Dr. Ray is transparent about his struggles, and uses the lessons learned to help other people overcome.
The most recent shows deal with the long-term effects of being raised in a dysfunctional family. Typically, family dysfunction is caused when one member of the family has a life-controlling handicap. This handicap could be alcoholism, drug addiction, depression, anger issues, control issues and so forth. The addicted person will get an excessive amount of attention, causing the rest of the family to be neglected. The person with the handicap acts like a puppeteer; whenever he moves, the family moves.
The extreme attention given to the family member with the issue causes vital needs to be missing for the rest of the family. The lingering effects of a dysfunctional family can have a dramatic impact on our present-day life and our future, if these schemes are not exposed.
In this episode, there is no condemnation put on the family. Still, there is the reality that being raised in dysfunction can create labels and messages that affect our identity and the long-term ability to be successful. {eoa}
