Matt Gonzales is no stranger to the redemptive power of the Holy Spirit. On today’s episode of The Prophetic Family on The Prophetic Company podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network, Matt shares his heart-wrenching testimony with his wife, Des.
Matt recalls, “My mom prayed for my dad for 19 years, because she wanted him to have an encounter with Jesus like she did.” Even though he was raised by a faith-filled mother, his teenage years were rough, to say the least. After a particularly harrowing night of poor decisions, he remembers saying to himself in his moment of desperation, “God, if You’re real, and if You’d get me out of this situation, I’d serve You.”
As he sat in the truck after his father bailed him out, Matt says, “the anger within the truck [was] so thick, you could cut it with a knife.” He remembers, “I’m waiting, waiting, waiting. And finally we’re halfway home and [my dad] says, ‘We’re going to Bible study tonight.’ And I’m like, ‘What are you doing?’
“And it was [at this Bible study, for] the first time I began to feel the Lord’s presence.
“All the anger that I had inside of me begin to let me go. And I had an encounter with the presence of God, and something began to take place in our life that was just so amazing, and so powerful,” Matt says.
But that’s not when he came to Christ. That happened at a Sunday-morning church service where some members of the Oakland A’s were speaking, Matt says. He and his family attended the service because of their longtime love for baseball.
