Solomon, in his wisdom, gave us the master keys to success, wealth and happiness. In the book of Proverbs, Solomon said wisdom is the principle thing; therefore get wisdom. Wisdom is key. If you go after wisdom—in her right hand is length of days and in her left hand is riches and honor—you will discover breakthrough strategies to achieve a life of success and personal fulfillment.
Steven Scott wrote The Richest Man Who Ever Lived, King Solomon’s Secrets to Success, Wealth, and Happiness, based on Proverbs. Scott learned valuable lessons from personal experience. After graduating from college, he lost nine jobs within six years. His boss from job number three even went on to predict that Scott would never succeed.
After he lost job number five, his friend Gary Smalley encouraged him, saying he could be wiser than all his bosses. Intrigued, Scott followed Smalley’s advice to read a chapter of Proverbs daily and write down the strategies that apply to business. On job number nine, Scott realized he could apply 15 strategies to a project he’d been heading. As a result, the company’s sales doubled. He quit that company and started his own business, using those strategies. His success was phenomenal.
Scott is quick to point out that book of Proverbs doesn’t teach you how to get rich, it teaches you how to have extraordinary outcomes. He has found the strategies work wherever they’re applied, from business, to marriage, to athletics, to any area of life. For business, Proverbs tells us that all labor brings profit—when you bring God’s wisdom into labor.
In marriage, Proverbs covers the three basic needs of a husband: to feel admired and respected, to feel loved and desired, and regular physical intimacy. It also shows the four basic needs of a wife: security (not financial) and the ability to feel safe, meaningful communication and connection, romance and nonsexual touch. When those needs are met, marriages bloom.
Proverbs also teaches how to win and resolve conflict. The book of Proverbs is practical and the application of these strategies is the key. Once you break them down and organize them, the impact can be life-changing.
