There’s no doubt we need a spiritual security system in our homes. When a thief enters a house without a security or surveillance system, he or she is able to steal, kill and destroy. And we know this is what our spiritual enemy, the devil, is seeking to do as well (John 10:10).
In the spiritual realm, we establish a supernatural hedge (border) of angelic protection—a spiritual security system—when Jesus Christ, the solid rock, is our foundation. We build upon this firm foundation with the Word of God in our hearts and minds and on our lips, establishing supernatural protection from the danger around us and the evil against us.
When you honor and bless others, you put yourself in the position to receive the blessings and protection of God. The blessing is an inheritance from God you pass on to your children. You bless when you speak words of affirmation. It is essential to protect the heart of your child by blessing your spouse and your children.
The dictionary defines blessing as “the act or words of a person who blesses; a special favor, mercy, or benefit: the blessings of liberty; a favor or gift bestowed by God, thereby bringing happiness; the invoking of God’s favor upon a person.” The opposite is curses and lack. As you can see, the blessing of God brings favor and prosperity. Our blessings also produce favor and break curses. Let us keep blessing our spouses and our children!
When a parent sins, the children suffer the consequences and many times are at risk of repeating the same offense. This is how many learn to walk in rebellion against God. Bad attitudes and bad examples leave a child exposed, like an easy target to evil spirits. Exodus 20:5b (NASB) says, “I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children.”
There is good news! When parents who fear their God and believe the Lord is their rock, fortress and deliverer decide to stand in the gap with powerful prayers for their children and their family, no devil can stop the blessing and protection of God upon them—or their children or children’s children! It is a tremendous responsibility that demands our commitment and our vigilance. “But from everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children” (Ps. 103:17b, NIV).
The problem we face will either help us grow or dominate us, depending on how we respond and act. God is always operating in our lives, even when we don’t realize it or understand it. These are times when we should open our mouths with powerful prayers and declarations of God’s Word.
Our words can either cause healing or cause brokenness. During World War II, Mussolini kept Italy immobilized with the power of his words. Hitler also conquered Austria with the power of his words. He did not engage in the use of bombs or infantry, but only words.
Learn to use words specifically and with purpose. Fill your words with God’s power and His Word. They will have a significant effect. All our words must be full of goodness, love and grace. Good words are “like apples of gold in settings of silver” (Prov. 25:11a).
Parents, the home environment is the product of the words we speak. Many children fail because of the effects of negative and destructive words. Many marriages end in divorce from the harmful impact of words that cause a wounded heart.
Do not give up! Cast out all fear from your heart. Apply the protection Jesus Christ purchased for you with His shed blood on the cross and arm yourself with the armor of Jesus Christ and the Word of God. Don’t give up because you don’t see changes quickly. Have patience and wait, even if it takes days, weeks, months or years. The most important thing is that in the end, your children will inherit eternal life and salvation.
Now rejoice with thankfulness. Rebuke the enemy and his foul spirits, and they will flee from you. Apply the blood of Jesus over your body, your family and your home. God is ready to bless you. Determine with all your heart to establish a spiritual security system in your home.
