Psalm 119:132-155 Order is something we all want in our lives. I never knew how much I appreciated order until I visited India, a country where confusion reigns instead of order. I asked the Lord why there is such confusion in India, and He reminded me that He was not the author of confusion. Satan is the author of confusion. Confusion reigns in India because there is so much idol worship. There are over three million gods worshiped in India. The whole atmosphere is charged with demonic oppression, and this oppression affects people’s mental faculties.
God is a God of holy order. If we desire to live orderly lives, one of the ways to do this is to allow God’s Word to bring order into our days. David prayed, “Direct my steps by Your word” (v. 133). This is an excellent prayer we can pray daily. His Word is not only a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, but it is also a road map to life that brings order into each moment we live. David also prayed in this psalm, “Redeem me from the oppression of man, that I may keep Your precepts” (v. 134). Deliverance from oppression both from men and demons happens when we keep God’s precepts. The Bible speaks of “line upon line, precept upon precept,” and this is the way we build order into our lives.
We live in a world of constant change, motion and noise. You’ve heard the expression, “Stop the world, I want to get off.” We sometimes have days like that where instead of building order through His Word, we subject ourselves to many distractions (TV, radio, all kinds of entertainment) that draw us away from the presence of God.
There is a confidence and strength that comes into our lives when we keep our days quiet. The Bible says, “In quietness and confidence will be your strength.” Of course, noise management is near impossible when we are in our work place or having a meal at a restaurant. This is why I love to steal myself away early in the morning while it is still dark; here I find my quiet place in the presence of the Lord that sustains me all the day long when the rush and bustle of the world begins. In this quiet place, I commit my works to Him for Him to establish my thoughts. There is always much to do each day, but the order in which these things are done is up to God. He desires to order my days in such a way that I am able to keep the main thing the main thing. The main thing is abiding in His love and His Word all the day long and sharing His kingdom with others.
Lord, help me to quiet myself in the morning before everything gets crazy. I commit my works to You so that You can bring order into my day. Put me in the right place at the right time, and help me to submit to Your will, not my own today. There are divine appointments You have for me today. Help me not to miss any of these appointments or anything You may have planned for me today. Help me to be led by Your Spirit.
