Dr. Ray Self has learned that anybody can love someone who’s lovable. But he has come to ask, can you love someone who’s not lovable? He says that’s exactly what God has called us to do “because Christ loved me and you when we were not lovable. So we’re called to do the same.”
But how are we supposed to love those who wrong us? Dr. Self reflects on a time when he was in this position. He says, “When I was a young man, I thought I knew what everybody should be doing. … And I got frustrated because people didn’t do what I wanted them to do.”
A revelation from the Lord ultimately caused Self to recognize this behavior in himself. He remembers hearing the Lord say to him, “Ray, just because you’re right, that doesn’t give you a right.”
