A vandal carved “Hail Satan” and other demonic symbols into a South Carolina church porch.
“Do I get angry? I haven’t had that response,” Care and Mission Director at Welcome Baptist Church David Berry tells a CBS affiliate. “We’re broken-hearted that somebody would do that to the church.”
Workers at the Union, South Carolina, church discovered the message, along with an upside-down cross and an anarchy symbol, burned onto the front columns of the building that houses an addiction recovery group, according to an incident report, Fox reports.
“When you see something like that, you know that person doesn’t know the Lord,” Berry says.
Police estimate the vandal created about $600 worth of damage, and no immediate suspects have been named.
“I hope we’ll love people even more now because our community’s, you know, all around us right here,” Berry says. “It’s inundated with people that’s you know made bad choices or didn’t have a good start. And that’s our job as a church, to love them.”
