Choose Life Over Death When You Choose Your Leadership Well

The book of Chronicles shares history that we already know, but it does so with a different purpose. It shows us what God’s heart is in the preceding details from the background and history in the books of 2 Samuel, 1 Kings and 2 Kings.

The emphasis of Chronicles is to bring hope in the Messiah who would come from David’s line. While the history of God’s people is marred, it does not lead to hopelessness! It helps us to understand the Messiah, trust in His promises, seek Him with all our heart and let Him fight our battles!

There are two major takeaways from the study of Chronicles:

— God is looking for builders of the temple.

— How the leadership styles of the kings relate to your life now.

Solomon was called to be the highest point of the dynasty; he was called to be the wisest person on earth! But he was also called to build the temple. God is looking for builders and restorers of the church. If you are called into leadership, you will either be a restorer or a destroyer.

People want to hear the sugarcoated word, but God calls us to speak the truth. This was the issue with Israel. A spiritual leader’s responsibility is to preach the truth; it is not to win a popularity contest. The truth will hurt. The gospel offends. Some people cannot accept it. Truth can break you. But that brokenness leads to hurt; that hurt leads to Christ; and Christ leads to salvation, deliverance and breakthrough.

1 Chronicles 11:10 (NIV) discusses David’s mighty warriors. “These were the chiefs of David’s mighty warriors—they, together with all Israel, gave his kingship strong support to extend it over the whole land, as the LORD had promised.” They had supernatural strength and wisdom because they submitted to David’s authority and kingship.

The leadership you allow to be a covering in your life is important. When you put yourself under a strong, righteous and holy authority, you are going to see the benefits from that authority in leadership. When you put yourself under a wicked authority, you are going to see the corrupted fruit from that authority, nonstop turmoil, chaos and division.

Under a kingly anointing, you become a mighty man, like one of David’s warriors. You come into unity with integrity, authority, love and, most importantly, Jesus Christ! There are miraculous signs and wonders in submitting to a powerful leadership of that kind.
