Mark 6:30-56 The disciples had just witnessed the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes. They saw over five thousand people fed from five loaves and two fishes. Now they were in the boat rowing to the other side when the winds came against them. Suddenly they saw Jesus walking upon the sea. They thought it was a spirit, and they were afraid. They were amazed when the winds ceased after Jesus boarded the boat. Mark records, “And they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened” (Mark 6:51-52, KJV).
Life has a way of hardening our hearts if we let it. We go from day to day, experience to experience, routine after routine, and if we do not keep our focus on Jesus, we can easily be overwhelmed by the storms of this life. Our hearts can even become hardened because we are not grateful for every breath we take. We take too much for granted. Every time we take a breath, we experience a miracle from God.
Today, instead of becoming impatient when you miss a light and have to wait for what seems like an eternity for it to change, take ten deep breaths. After each breath say, “Thank You, Lord, for the miracle of life.” Your whole day will then become a miracle.
Forgive me, Lord, for taking the gift of life for granted. Life truly is a miracle. Keep me in an attitude of gratitude all this day long so my heart will not be hardened. Give me eyes to see and ears to hear Your creative miracles all the day long. Thank You, Lord, for breath today so I can live another day in Your presence here on earth. I can hear one of Your miracles now as the birds sing loudly while the sunrise unfolds. You cause the evenings and the mornings to rejoice. Cause me to rejoice always also, because this is the day You have made, and I will rejoice in it.
