Faced with potential death if they are found out, women leaders of the underground church in Iran secretly gather to pray and proclaim, “Death before disobedience.” These women would rather die than disobey the one who saved them. These Iranian Esthers are moving mountains through their prayers.
I was at a prayer gathering at UPPERROOM Dallas, when Marcela Barcelona, co-founder of One Voice Student Missions, told this story. Marcela was surrounded by her three homeschooled children as we sat together and talked after the prayer meeting. We realized that we both had a divine call to help women rise in faith and obedience.
“My faith grew as a result of The Call Nashville on July 7, 2007,” Marcella shared. “Lou Engle called out a Spanish speaking woman who was watching God TV—that was me!” I shared with Marcella that I had the privilege of being one of the local organizers of The Call and met regularly with Jim Goll and other pastors and leaders in Nashville to prepare the way for The Call.
“I’m a result of your prayers,” Marcela said. My heart leapt like Elizabeth who saw the promise of God being carried by a younger Mary. Together we talked about the vision that Lou Engle shared about gathering a million women in Washington, D.C., in 2022.
