The Book of Revelation unfolds the mysteries of God and His plan of salvation anchored in Jesus Christ. We are told in Revelation 17-19 of the fall of Babylon, the city and the global network of her evils.
Part of her destruction involves being consumed by the beast of the abyss, who is Satan. The beast is also the one who arises from the sea, which is a reflection of Satan, which I call secular humanism.
In the past 100-plus years we have seen the beast of secular humanism rise out of Europe to begin to consume the system of Babylon entrenched in her nations. At the height of their powers in wealth, military might, education, science, culture, arts and prosperity they start to devour each other.
One great war follows another in the destruction of their cities, death and carnage throughout the continent and the world. The four horsemen run rampant across the globe. This horror of war will break the heart of its belief system in the God of the Bible and of Jesus Christ.
How can Christian nations wreak havoc upon one another in wars of death, the Holocaust, oppression and suffering? It is as though Dante’s inferno has been released upon the leaders and people. Evil appears to triumph everywhere.
Yet in the end the forces of good won, although it was not a total victory in World War II, as the beast of secular humanism in the Soviet Union and China threatened to take over the world with its communistic vainglory. Then, once the Cold War ceased with the fall of the Soviet Union, another beast arose in Islamic terrorism.
Then the beast of secular humanism came back to life in communist China and in the alignment of the nations against Israel. These beasts formed an unlikely union with the Islamic nations. In the end they will consume the world system of Babylon and its evils, but they will be defeated by Jesus Christ as He returns to establish His kingdom over the earth.
In the midst of these terrors the people of God are called to come out of Babylon, to stop participating in her sins and to be spared the spiritual judgments that will come upon Babylon and the beast.
Let me propose a possibility for this scene. Babylon and its evil is tied to the Book of Daniel, which sets forth the spiritual history of the Jews, especially in chapter 9. In this sacred scripture, Daniel knows that the 70-year captivity of the Jews in Babylon that followed the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple is about to end.
The Jews will be miraculously restored to return to Jerusalem to prepare the way for the birth of the Messiah. Seventy years is one of God’s significant time periods. Is it possible to apply the 70 years to the era we are now experiencing since World War II and the rebirth of Israel followed by the liberation of Jerusalem as her capital in 1967? If not 70, then we are in a generational time period that will usher in the return of our Lord.
Jesus prophesied that one generation would see His return once Jerusalem was no longer trampled or ruled by the Gentiles. This happened in 1967. Could this generation be a period of 70 years as it parallels Daniel and fits Jesus’ prophecies in Matthew 24, 25 and Luke 21?
As the Jews came out of Babylon after 70 years, will Christ return to call His people out of the Babylon of Revelation to a New Jerusalem? His generational prophecy of the destruction of Jerusalem happened within 40 years, in AD 70. This was given to prove to us that what He predicted for the end of this age would also happen.
Forty years have already passed, so is 70 years the last generation’s timetable?
From 1967 and for 70 years, we as God’s people are called to reject the secular humanism of Satan and the beast that has arisen to dominate our world cultures in opposition to the people of God, both Jews and Christians.
The beast has taken charge with its false prophet, the voice of social media, journalism, high tech and education, seeking to replace God, our answer to life-and-death problems and the One who can solve our problems and save our souls, with humanity.
The removal of God and His holiness and the rejection of God’s laws for the laws of humanity will allow Babylon to take charge of all of our systems of life, from business to education to science to politics. This corruption will cause the global community to collapse into chaos and wickedness, which will be the result of God’s limited and then unlimited judgments on the people of the earth who will not repent of their sins, as told in Revelation 9.
We as God’s people face daily the war Satan and the beast wage against us. The body of Christ has been almost completely corrupted by the tares of secular humanism. God calls us to reject its lies and deceptions and sins. Yet in this time of spiritual battle, only a remnant seems to answer the call to make disciples of all nations. They have done a miraculous job since 1948/1967. The gospel has been preached to all nations.
Has our Creator given us 70 years to prepare the way for Jesus’ return as marked in 1967? We see the acceleration of global evil, the rejection of God and His truth, and the hatred of Israel and even Christians grow across the nations of the earth.
The signs of Jesus’ prophecies of the four horsemen and the four winds of Revelation and in Matthew 24 and 25 of false prophets and false Christs leading the world in deeper and deeper sin with its secular humanism flash across our news.
Wake up, Jews and Christians. Come out of the evil of Babylon. Return to Jesus and His love. Be restored to a life of holiness that reflects the Word of God. Do not let your love grow cold, and do not be deceived by the false teachings of secular humanism. Like a vicious cancer it has invaded our body. Our only hope of healing is a return to our first love, Jesus Christ, and to a lifestyle of holiness.
Our heavenly Warrior will come riding in on His stallion of glory to destroy the unholiness of Satan and the beast of secular humanism. All who are with Babylon will be thrown into the lake of fire. Those who love Jesus and are in covenant with the God of Abraham through Jesus Christ will receive the reward of Christ’s sacrifice.
We will be spared the spiritual judgments and reign with Him as His kings and priests. Christ’s glory, love, holiness and righteousness will flourish as Jesus establishes His kingdom and creates a new heaven and a new earth. We will be free of the curse of sin and death to know the fullness of His blessings as Jesus promised in His Word.
Our labor in the midst of this spiritual war is not in vain. {eoa}
