How Becoming a Better Leader Allows You to Better Spread the Gospel

Have you ever been busy enough that you wished you could make a copy of yourself?

The power to duplicate yourself or multiply your impact is an attractive proposition, and Wes Griffin and others at the International Leadership Institute have found a highly successful way to do this.

Griffin and his team founded ILI on eight core values with the idea of developing Christian leaders who would then develop more Christian leaders. Their vision was that this multiplication would increase the spread of the gospel throughout the world.

“ILI has a vision to change history by accelerating the spread of the gospel around the world through leaders of leaders.”

The organization started after identifying leadership as a key mechanism for spreading the gospel. They distilled eight core values—such as intimacy with God and culturally relevant evangelism—that they believed Christian leaders needed and could help to reproduce in others.

When asked about how effective ILI is at training leaders of leaders in these core values, Griffin shared a story of encountering a “fourth generation” ILI alumnus. This man was immediately able to name every one of ILI’s core values. “You trained David, David trained Simon, Simon trained my pastor, and my pastor trained me,” he said.

To date, over 300,000 have gone through the ILI’s discipleship training, and many of these men and women continue to disciple others to this day. Griffin highlighted that ILI’s mission is not just about knowledge transfer but that “anointing actually transfers—it’s just something of God.”
