23 Minutes in Hell’s Bill Wiese says we live in a world dominated by sin. Many of us have become so accustomed to it that we find it acceptable. However, God lives in a perfect place where there is no sin, and He will never allow sin into heaven (Rev. 21:27).
Our sin is such an abomination to a holy and perfect God that it deserves the severest punishment, which is separation from Him for all eternity.
This is why God chose to use the cross. It is part of the severity of the suffering. Jesus was beaten beyond recognition as a man and took on all the effects of sin: sickness, disease, shame, abandonment and separation from God. It is amazing that God would decree the worst punishment for our sins, knowing He would be the one to endure it.
The cross demonstrates 100% justice and 100% love. No other religion deals with our sin issue. No one else died for our sins and then rose from the dead (1 Cor. 15:3-4). This is the reason for the cross.
