Author Melissa Ohden survived a saline abortion attempt when her mother was in her third trimester of pregnancy. Born weighing less than 3 pounds, Ohden was saved by a nurse. Ohden is the founder of the Abortion Survivors Network, which exists to raise awareness about the realities surrounding abortion by telling survivors’ stories.
“I know God spared my life, I know God gave me this mission and I know this world is temporal,” Ohden says. “I am just so eternally grateful for the gift of my life. … All of us are harmed in one way or another by someone else, and I think when you’re in the midst of it, it’s easy to hold a grudge, be angry or bitter, or question God’s plan in the midst of that. But I always encourage people to take a step back and see the greater story that God is writing.”
Ohden had the opportunity to meet her biological grandfather on her father’s side, and teared up when she thought about how grateful she is for that. She’s now also very close with her birth mom, who was actually drugged and forced to have the abortion against her will.
