A member of the multiplatinum hard-core rap group Three 6 Mafia, Mr. Del rededicated his life to Christ in 2000 and since then has used his musical talent to spread the gospel. He says his newest album, Thrilla—an acronym for The Real Anointing—shows a “deeper, transparent side of me” and “allows the listener to submerge into the heart of an artist who has overcome weakness and insurmountable obstacles and is now refined and strong through Christ.”
Displaying an about-face approach to music, Mr. Del says his lyrics aren’t just for entertaining but for “piercing the heart … and igniting life-changing action.”
His mission for this new album is to help break down barriers that still exist within the Christian community. “I want this industry to not be so segregated,” he explains. “What we see is that Christian represents Caucasian, and Gospel represents African-American. This isn’t a true representation of the kingdom.”
Today Mr. Del doesn’t just use music to minister to others. He is also the founder and pastor of City of Refuge, which started as a Bible study on the campus of the University of Memphis.
