Seems most people by now have seen The Blind Side or at least heard that Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her portrayal of Leigh Anne Tuohy. But if you haven’t, here’s a recap.
The film tells the story of how a homeless African-American teen comes to live with a white, Christian family. When Leigh Anne Tuohy discovers that Michael Oher, a student at her children’s school, doesn’t have a place to stay, she takes him home.
But what starts out as a temporary solution soon becomes a permanent arrangement. Michael doesn’t just move into the Tuohy’s house, he moves into their hearts. Michael and the Tuohys become family.
The Tuohys help Michael with his education, encourage him to play football and eventually guide him with his decision for a college scholarship. But this is not a movie just about a kid who plays football. It’s a story of someone seeing a person in need and doing something about it—no matter the cost, no matter the criticism. The Tuohy family is an example of what it means to demonstrate Christ-like love.
