The drumroll announcing the final curtain opening on the divine drama of human history is revealing the spectacular conflict soon to take center stage.
The nations are raging. The geopolitical lines and historical alliances once deemed destined to endure the ravages of time have shifted dramatically in a single decade. Archenemies have baffled the world, becoming end-time friends. Friends have become implacable foes. Betrayal has bereaved the world of ancient trusts, leaving leaders bewildered at the shocking events unfolding rapidly before their terrified eyes.
Indeed, the nations are being stirred in unprecedented rage. These circumstances were clearly foretold three thousand years ago from the very mount of God … Mount Zion.
Indeed, They Rage
The ancient psalmist asked a provocative question that echoes to our prophetic moment poised on the edge of eternity: “Why do the heathen rage?” (Ps. 2:1, KJV). This question is more timely translated, “Why do the Gentiles or Gentile nations rage?”
Indeed, they rage; and that rage is intensifying. Choreographed hatred by those to whom we have entrusted our youth for higher learning has metastasized throughout our colleges and universities, resulting in a pandemic and vicious virus of anti-Semitism sweeping all Western nations. Business, multinational corporations and even our churches have become partners in the irrational rage against Jews, Jerusalem and Israel. “Political correctness” choreographs the anti-Semitic carnage, defiling the entire Gentile world.
Political and so-called NGOs, or “non-governmental organizations,” further institutionalize the tsunamic rage sweeping the earth. The United Nations have choreographed a final end-time opposition to the state of Israel, daring the nascent state to endure their collective disdain. Many churches and pastors have followed suit. Resurgent “replacement theology” has enabled a rapidly growing number of armchair theologians to hitch their star to the politically-correct wave of cultural and global animus toward Israel.
Judicial Notice
Pastors, priests, presidents, popes and prime ministers would do well to take judicial notice from the God of heaven and earth.
“When I shall have gathered the house of Israel from the people among whom they are scattered…then shall they dwell in their land that I have given to my servant Jacob. And they shall dwell safely therein” (Ezek. 28:25-26, KJV).
“For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, said the Lord God, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me” (Ezek. 20:40).
It is a global phenomenon that grows geometrically, month by month, year by year. Will the collective animus of the Gentile world against the Jewish people result in a calamitous confrontation with the Lord of Nations? For indeed, it is written:
“I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee” (Gen. 12:3).
Why Then Do the Nations Rage?
The rage of the nations is rationally irrational, culminating in uncontrollable rage in a collective malignancy of mind and heart. The psalmist inquired, “Why do the heathen [nations] rage?” (Psa. 2:1).
The “vanity,” sheer foolishness and arrogance of the rage was directed “against the LORD, and against his anointed” (Ps. 2:2). The psalmist prophetically observed that mere man had the temerity or chutzpah to set himself against the Creator of the universe and to defy His clearly designated will for the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob [Israel].
Yet “the kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed” (Ps. 2:2). Unrestrained envy, coupled with rebellion against the God of Israel, gives perverse “rationality” to their rage. Just as “pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Prov. 16:18), so the nations and their prideful potentates will soon face their moment of truth with the “only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (I Tim. 6:15). And the picture will not be pretty. “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh” (Ps. 2:4).
“For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye” (Zech. 2:8).
“My Holy Hill”
The kings and rulers of the earth have set themselves up, confederating against the Lord and His anointed, Israel (Ps. 2:2). “Political correctness” has become a devious and deceptive device to mask the underlying motivations of men and their institutions maligning the sons of Jacob. But the Lord of Nations is not deceived.
“Then shall He [God] speak unto them [the nations and their rulers] in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure” (Ps. 2:5).
Despite the arrogant conspiracy of the world’s leaders to dispossess Israel and, therefore, rule from the Mount, God has made His purpose plain.
“Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion” (Ps. 2:6).
“The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel” (Joel 3:16).
Yeshua, as coming Messiah, has already been decreed by God to be “King of the Mountain,” to rule and reign from Mount Zion and to dispossess and depose the Imposter Antichrist who will attempt to rule the nations, usurping Messiah’s throne.
Yet the eternal question remains: “Who is sitting on the throne of YOUR heart?” {eoa}
