Note: Listen to the podcast, What to Do in the Season of Waiting.
At the beginning of the book of Acts, 120 people were in Jerusalem waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit to be fulfilled because Jesus never specified when that would occur, only where. I believe it’s the same for Christ followers today; God gives us promises, but there’s a waiting period before they’re fulfilled.
Here are three important things to do in the season of waiting:
1. Pray – In Acts chapter one you see that when they enter the upper room in Jerusalem, they begin to pray (Acts 1:14).
God desires to fulfill His Word in your life, but that comes through waiting God’s way, in prayer, to align your heart in preparation for what God has said. Waiting is not a waste of time if you’re praying.
2. Prepare – There were two farmers who needed rain for their crops. They desperately prayed that God would supply it, but only one went out to prepare his land. Which one do you think had faith that the rain would come?
As you wait for God to fulfill His promise to you, begin to prepare, like the disciples did in Acts 1:15-17.
Don’t just pray, accompany your faith with practical planning and actions. Prepare the land, and God will show up.
3. Sit with Waiters – As you wait, surround yourself with waiters–those who are also waiting on God’s promises, like Mary and Elizabeth in Luke 1:39-45.
Be around Godly people who are strong in the Lord and will encourage you to set your eyes on what God has for you, your ministry, and your family.
You may be in a season of waiting, but I want to encourage you to keep the faith. Allow God to use your life to spread the message of His goodness, even while you wait.
