Are you hungry for the gifts of the Spirit? Do you long to see the gifts of the Spirit manifest in everyday life in ways that impact the world and bring people to Jesus? I know I do. Paul the apostle told us to eagerly desire the gifts of the Spirit (see 1 Cor. 14:1). We are to crave them and desire them. The word Paul used in the Greek could actually be translated “covet” or “burn with zeal.” That’s how intensely we should long for their outpouring in our lives.
These gifts are important, and we should eagerly desire them, because they are the weapons of our warfare. They help us to know what is hidden, to see in the spirit realm, to stay in step with the Spirit of God and advance His Kingdom on earth. Jesus said, in Luke 8:17, “For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light” (NKJV). We get to be part of that revealing through operating in the gifts of the Spirit.
Recently, I read a book called Seven Days with a Witch, by Don Allen Jr., in which he tells about his encounter with a high witch and how he led her to Jesus. This book brought so much enlightenment to me as a prayer warrior, because I learned that people who operate in the realm of darkness have great understanding of the spiritual realm. How much more should we, as children of God, filled with the Holy Spirit, have revelation, understanding, and knowledge about what is happening in the spiritual realm? The answer is, we should have a lot more. But sadly, most of us do not.
This needs to change. Such knowledge will help us effectively bring freedom and healing to people, build the Kingdom, and stand as mighty prayer warriors. The good news is, God does not want us to stumble around in the dark. He wants all that is hidden to be revealed. That is, in part, why He has given us the gifts of the Spirit. And I believe that as the prayer movement continues to gain momentum, we will see an increased outpouring and manifestation of the gifts of the Spirit.
We must look for them, long for them, and earnestly ask God for them. Jesus said, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him” (Matt. 7:11 NKJV). And Paul prayed that “the eyes of your understanding [may be] enlightened” (Eph. 1:18 NKJV). God is eager to release His gifts and revelation in greater measure in our lives. We need an increase in His gifts to do the work He has put before us. So let’s believe Him for these gifts to be manifested in our prayer closets and in our everyday lives.
