Prophetic gifts are an amazing tool when handled correctly. In the days we are in, hearing God’s voice can actually position us to do far more than we could ever accomplish on our own. How come the prophetic is often so confusing, conspiracy based or even just hard to understand?
As a pastor, there have been times when people I lead feel like they have heard strategic things from God for our church or members, but their words feel more like they are speaking in tongues than prophesying, and that’s because they are—in a way. The way they relate to God needs to be translated. It’s not your responsibility to grow that in them directly, but providing an atmosphere of realistic feedback, and even helping to celebrate the moments words come true (but also holding them accountable or clearly sharing when things don’t) is essential for leading people who are going after the prophetic.
I love how the disciples share with Jesus in John 16:29: “Yes! Now You are speaking plainly and with no figure of speech.”
Who changed in that equation—Jesus or the disciples? The closer we get to God and take personal responsibility for our own words, the clearer our words become to our family, friends and the world around us.
It’s time to impart prophetic intelligence to people we lead by creating boundaries that help them grow in their ability to hear, administer and apply their words within our sphere of influence. We have the toolset of the prophetic along with the wisdom to manage it, so let’s go after it!
