This new VeggieTales film is an honorable tribute to the classic film It’s a Wonderful Life. It certainly follows the gist of the famous story, but of course throws in some twists and turns.
Stewart (Larry the Cucumber) allows a long-ago football mistake to keep him from embracing the wonderful life he has. He loves his family and works at the train factory to support them, but he’s always wondering what his life would be like if he’d just made that amazing play in the Salad Bowl so many years ago.
A mysterious train takes Stewart on a tour of his life, showing him how it would have been different had he made that amazing play. Stewart sees what would be missing in his life, and he realizes how important it is to be content with what he does have.
This film also offers a special message about adoption. Big Idea is partnering with Show Hope, the organization founded by Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman, to raise awareness about adoption. Their adopted daughter Stevey Joy provides the voice for Stewart’s daughter, Emma. And Steven Curtis Chapman wrote and performed the song “Meant to Be” for the film. Bonus features include an interview with him.
Children will surely have fun watching this new veggiefied tale, and parents familiar with the classic movie will enjoy the clever references.
