Democrats are still upset that Robert Mueller’s report revealed no evidence that Donald Trump’s presidential campaign colluded with Russia. But this should come as no surprise. I recently had the privilege to appear on “Focus Today,” where host Steve Johnson interviewed me about the Mueller report and its aftermath.
As I told Johnson, the Mueller report reveals a spiritual battle the enemy is waging against Trump—and Christians across the nation must be equipped to combat it. Click here to listen to the entire interview or go to the end of this article.
Of course, those of us who are not biased against Trump were in no way surprised at Mueller’s conclusions. In fact, if there was any collusion at all, it would have been with the Democrats and Hillary Clinton with their Steele dossier defaming Trump. I’m grateful that Sen. Lindsey Graham wants to hold several hearings to investigate the FBI and that dossier.
Yet the left’s incessant attack against our president reveals his role as a disrupter—as well as how deep corruption runs in our nation’s politics. But Ephesians 6:12 says, “For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Spiritual warfare surrounds us all the time. It’s a daily battle the enemy wages in our personal lives, in our homes, in our cities and even in Washington.
Only those with spiritual discernment will understand this. And it explains why the left went berserk when Trump was elected. You could see it in all the protests, some of which involved violence and many of which were funded by socialist billionaire George Soros.
You also see it in the way the left attacks Christianity in general. For example, some on the left are actually introducing legislation that says the Bible should be considered a hate book because it condemns sins that people love and want to make legal. Thankfully, that legislation has not gone through, but it goes to show the extremes people will go to oppose biblical principles.
If this kind of behavior goes unchecked, I believe we are only two or three elections away from extreme liberals getting a firm upper hand. The left already has the upper hand in the news media, academia and many parts of our government.
One way the left gets the church to go along with its values is by creating a false dichotomy between politics and spiritual matters. The left has taken abortion—which is really a spiritual matter of defending life—and turned it into a purely political issue. It has taken same-sex marriage—a spiritual matter of biblical marriage—and turned it into a political issue of defending the rights of the LGBT community. Once leftists turn these spiritual matters into political issues, they tell the church to stand off with their false understanding of separation of church and state.
I talk more in depth about this spiritual warfare in my latest book, Trump Aftershock. In the chapter titled “America at War With Itself,” I describe a prophetic word Pastor John Kilpatrick gave last year. He said witchcraft had been unleashed against Trump and that the spirit of Jezebel was opposing him. (You can purchase your own copy of Trump Aftershock at trumpaftershock.com.)
But despite the spiritual battle, Trump continues to stand in defense of Christians, not only across America but across the world. In fact, this is one reason I believe the left is so bent on halting Trump’s agenda. Just look at the way Trump has defended life and at his condemnation of murder in the womb. (His 2019 State of the Union address was one of the most pro-life speeches I have ever heard a president give.)
Trump also demonstrated his goal to defend religious liberty by working to get American evangelist Andrew Brunson released from prison in Turkey. The president’s sanctions on Turkey are what pushed the Muslim nation to release the imprisoned pastor, who was arrested for spreading the truth of Christ.
And here in the U.S., Trump championed religious freedom by overturning the Johnson Amendment, which prohibited pastors from endorsing political candidates from the pulpit. When Trump heard a group of pastors tell him why they couldn’t endorse him, he knew it was wrong, and he promised to repeal that law. Thankfully, he kept his promise, which he continues to do.
With all Trump is doing to advance conservative, biblical values, it’s no surprise the enemy is trying to stop him and is using the left to do so. So how should Spirit-filled Christians respond? I believe it’s imperative that believers rise up in this hour and pray.
God has a good plan for America, but He is also a God of righteousness and justice, and He will judge wickedness. We have to realize that, in all this, God is in control. And if we are faithful to pray according to His will—not a political party’s will or a friend’s will—we will see Him do incredible things.
As our culture grows more and more sinful, I see Christians getting more and more serious. I believe that as things get worse, God is going to raise up the church to stand in a way it hasn’t before. If you have faith to see this happen, share this article with your friends and get them praying for our nation.
