A leader who is led by love understands authority structures.
In God’s Word, we see that the centurion in Matthew 8 had such a clear understanding of authority it caused Jesus to marvel.
When Jesus agreed to journey to the official’s home to heal the man’s servant, the centurion said:
Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But speak the word only, and my servant will be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this man, “Go,” and he goes, and to another, “Come,” and he comes, and to my servant, “Do this,” and he does it. —Matthew 8:8-9
The centurion understood chain of command, and so must we.
At the core of leader love is submission to the authority of Christ. The only way we can demonstrate the golden rule of leadership is if we follow Christ.
“What would Jesus do?” should be top of mind for leaders seeking to operate in the law of love. This is key, whether in everyday meetings, in confrontations or in other matters of leading.
Asking this question will help us understand how Christ led and how the Holy Spirit is leading us.
