As WPBF 25 reported, Huston was alone in her home when the tornado came through, ripping off her roof. Huston’s great-grandson, Rylee, told the outlet that Huston was at home alone when the tornado occurred. He stated that the elderly woman hid in the bathroom when the winds came and smashed through.
“I can’t imagine her just being in the bathroom, getting the roof ripped off of the house, and the other wall slamming into the door,” Rylee told WPBF 25. “She recounts that as probably the scariest time of her life.”
Huston’s neighbors found her injured after the storm. She would need a foot surgery and had a bruised and sore back, but miraculously, she was alive.
“Miracle. Luck. God,” Huston’s great-grandson said. “That’s as best as I can really put it.”
Rylee also made a GoFundMe page for Jayne to help her put her life back together after having it wrecked by the tornado.
“Born in 1919, she has seen it all and never once thought her home in Port Salerno could ever be taken away. Hurricane Milton brought tragedy when a tornado crashed into her home,” the page read. “Luckily, she survived through this but has not her home and had to leave her entire life’s worth of history in the rubble. We know so many are suffering, and our prayers go out to all that have been affected throughout our state.”
Right now the goal for Rylee and the rest of the Huston family is to raise $10,000 to help support Jayne in rebuilding her life.
