We desperately need a revival of the fear of the Lord, a recovery of the awe of God and a restoration of reverence. It is a life-and-death matter.
The Word not only tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge (Ps. 111:10; Prov. 1:7) but also says, “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death” (Prov. 14:27, NIV).

The fear of the Lord can save your life—physically and spiritually.
Moses told the Israelites that the Lord came down on Mount Sinai in thunder and fire so“His fear would be before you to keep you from sinning” (Ex. 20:20, author’s translation). And the voice of wisdom in Proverbs says, “To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, And duplicity in speech” (Prov. 8:13, Jewish Study Bible).
How we need to recover this fear of the Lord!
We must regain and recover our reverence for Him. As Hebrews says, “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our ‘God is a consuming fire’” (Heb. 12:28–29, NIV).
