If you are no longer aware of who He is for you and what He is calling you to through the Word, then you will shake away from all.
I have shared a story of a ministry who had threats and attacks against them. I had a vision of weapons that had formed broken at their feet.
It was exactly the same time I texted the word that they were having a conversation asking “Could these be warfare?”
There are two things about this story:
- They were open to think about life spiritually instead of just accepting that this was their lot.
- They were willing to be resensitized to a spiritual frame of mind to look for what God is doing and see things through His perspective.
“No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me, declares the Lord” (Isa. 54:17).
We don’t categorize a lot of what is going on spiritually (or sometimes any of what is going on). We categorize it naturally: This person just has anxiety because of COVID. That person is just sick because it’s going around. The economy is bad. I should expect to be in survival mode. Politicians are just corrupt. It’s just a scary time right now.
Each of these statements are powerful statements that can lead you to see spiritual truth. Yes, there are natural descriptions for some of the things that are happening, but above those descriptions are intentions of an enemy of God, the devil who wants to steal, kill and destroy. His plans are very intentional. And above those intentions are God’s desire to bless you, heal you, restore you.
We also make natural statements that we don’t always put in spiritual categories that are good: I got a job promotion, we paid off debt, we are having a baby, I met the right person, my medical condition is done, I started a dream project.
When we don’t include God as an initiator of the good that comes in our lives, when we don’t imagine or come to the conclusion that God is responsible, then it is hard to have faith through the hard things that come.
The Doctor that I taught to understand how he hears God … reverse engineering looking for God in the moments in life.
We have to prepare our spiritual mind for action. Seeing the world through a Biblical worldview and a spiritual lens.
“This is why we must not fall asleep, as the rest do, but keep wide awake and clear headed” (1 Thess. 5:6, TPT).
Another term for clear headed here is to be “spiritually conscious or aware.” In other words as things are happening that you see behind what the enemy is doing, you look beyond what man is doing right or wrong and you look at the Father and what He is doing.
A Christian life is one of awareness, but if we don’t have actionable steps to what God shows us we will get spiritually desensitized. We won’t trust our discernment, we won’t seek God for breakthrough for ourself or others, we won’t face life for a victory but we will live in mediocrity or even oppression.
When Jesus tells the disciples not to let their hearts grow cold, He is talking exactly about this. Not to allow yourself to be naturally minded first. Not to take your circumstances and look at them without being connected to an omnipotent all powerful God!
“Be careful that you never allow your hearts to grow cold. Be careful that you are not caught off guard, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and the worries of this life, and that day will come upon you suddenly like a trap. Don’t let me come and find you drunk or living carelessly like everyone else” (Luke 21:34, TPT).
He was using the words carousing, drunkenness and worries of life to be a picture for what a cold spiritually unaware life looks like. How many people do we see right now who are spiritually cold in their heart? They are not connected to themselves let alone the world around them.
It is a dark time, which is a spiritual awareness to even recognize that … but in the midst of darkness light is rising.

This is why the Scripture says, “Arise, you sleeper! Rise up from your coffin and the Anointed One will shine his light into you!” (Eph. 5:14-16, TPT).
So be very careful how you live, not being like those with no understanding, but live honorably with true wisdom, for we are living in evil times. Take full advantage of every day as you spend your life for His purposes.
This takes an active or actionable step to keep your hearts on fire. You have to let your love for God lead your vision. You have to allow prayer to be real and not just a wish list of things you hope happen. You have to do some work on defining what you think your goals should be in God right now.
Gas prices high? What is your actionable step spiritually? Problems at work or in a relationship? How are you praying, planning and waiting intentionally with spiritual awareness over what needs to happen or are you allowing yourself to just accept what you can’t control as if there isn’t a God who is able to break through?
“So then, prepare your hearts and minds for action! Stay alert and fix your hope firmly on the marvelous grace that is coming to you. For when Jesus Christ is unveiled, a greater measure of grace will be released to you” (1 Peter 1:13, TPT).
The greatest shaking in modern history is happening and it’s so easy to feel shaken! But God has put a kingdom inside of you that is unshakable and when you have a vision of that, doing what He has called you to do you truly become unshakable.
If you are no longer aware of who He is for you and what He is calling you to through the Word, then you will shake away from all.
