I want this statement embedded and imprinted on the canvas of your mind. “Failure isn’t in stopping; it’s in quitting.”
Now, say it aloud five times.
Next, process the words just spoken.
Let’s examine the difference in meaning between the words stop and quit.
A stop is a brief stay in the course of a journey, a pause.
To quit is to give up or relinquish.
Notice the difference in meanings? Stopping isn’t necessarily synonymous with quitting. There are times when stopping is necessary and even required. Due to the lack of proper preparation and planning, our endeavors don’t go as expected. Therefore, it’s essential to stop everything for the sake of regrouping, reassessing and then relaunching.
Luke 14: 28 (KJV) says, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it.” In other words, Jesus stresses the importance of proper planning before beginning a project, especially if you desire to finish. But peradventure enthusiasm and overzealousness gets the best of you, and things go awry; quitting that which was assigned to or birthed in you isn’t ever an option. Remember what Matthew 24:13 says: “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” Endurance is the key, not speed! You may not be the first to finish, but ensure that you do finish. Understand you’ve failed when you’re unsuccessful in accomplishing your purpose, which is impossible if you don’t quit.
Therefore, thinker, keep going.
