‘Til Kingdom Come’ Unmasked: Gross Misrepresentation in Israeli Documentary

Til Kingdom Come is a new Israeli documentary that was ostensibly produced to share about the blessing to Israel of support from Christians. It turned out to be a gross misrepresentation of what that support is about, at best capturing a snapshot of the phenomena of Christian support for Israel at a single point in time with just that image being depicted as the reality of all Christian support for Israel. Unfortunately, the film does so in a way that’s misleading at best. In fact, it’s dishonest.

For me, this is personal. At the outset of the producer making this film, she reached out to me, and I was nominally involved and helped to get others connected to tell the story which I believed was important to tell, and which I believed that she would do her best to tell with integrity. This is because I’ve had the privilege of building bridges between Jews and Christians and connecting Christians to Israel since God called me to do this at a small church in Cleveland, Tennessee, in the late 1980s. Over my life and career, I have been blessed to fellowship with Christians of all backgrounds, sharing and building upon all that we have in common.

For that reason, and that I have experienced and understood the root of Christian support, when I first saw the film, I was disappointed. When I realized how the gross misrepresentations were being depicted as gospel as the film was featured from film festival to film festival, invariably with a Q&A session following that underscored the producers’ bias, I became disturbed.

I am all for people with divergent views sharing their opinions. I like to listen and learn. Are there legitimate questions to create understanding about Christian support for Israel and reciprocally building bridges between Jews and Christians? Absolutely. But if this is approached to create a false impression, based on misleading facts and making up other facts, that’s out of bounds.

Unfortunately, that’s what this film does.
