A Road Map for the Remnant: Advancing With Confidence Into 2021

Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn recently warned America, “If we don’t get this right, our country is done.” Americans are living in a historic time, yet few are aware of the significance of our moment. I agree.

Mainstream media usurps the law and prematurely “declares the next president.” Citizens’ demands for a fair election are declared a conspiracy theory and government overreach has extended beyond constitutional limits to shutting down the churches and the religious freedom our nation was founded to protect.

COVID-19 is leading toward mass vaccinations and contact tracing, while world governments increase calls for digital currency and controlling travel through passports linked to vaccinations.

Where is all this heading? Is our world falling apart, or is it falling into place?

Surprisingly, many Americans are unaware of the changes taking place in our culture. For the sake of truth and freedom, ignorance and deception must be resisted. Other than unlawful, rampaging virus policies changing how we work and educate our children, few are aware of the true spiritual implications of our time.

Yet I continue to connect with fellow believers who recognize the importance of current events and are living faithfully to the Lord—despite the world around us.

Just as in biblical days of old, there remains a remnant.

In the Old Testament, the nation of Israel always included a core of committed God-followers who declared the word of the Lord during times of decline or danger. Likewise, today our nation includes a vibrant remnant of American Christians who stand increasingly aware of the need for spiritual and national awakening.

For the remnant believer, we are clearly experiencing a renewed need to rely upon spiritual resources in what is ultimately a spiritual battle. Our Lord Jesus calls us to focus on three key areas in these turbulent times.

The Remnant Believer Is Called to Pray

We are primarily in a spiritual battle. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against powers in the heavenly realm (Eph. 6:12).

If we do not rely upon God’s strength, we stand on our own and will fail. Yet with God all things are possible (Matt. 19:26b).

The Remnant Believer Is Called to Witness

This includes a firm conviction to communicate that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). He is the only way of salvation (Acts 4:12).

We are to “witness,” to share the truth as well. In addition to sharing the need for salvation, our call must include challenging those in our sphere of influence toward a biblical worldview. As the apostle Peter taught, we are to “Always be ready to give an answer to every man who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Pet. 3:15b).

The Remnant Believer Is Called to Resist Evil

James taught, “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7b). We must withstand the devil as well as the sin of our fallen society. Even when our culture chooses to accept sinful ways, we must remain faithful to oppose what the Lord calls sin. This challenge again calls us to prayer, as spiritual power stands as the foundation for resisting evil.

As remnant believers, we are called to stand in the gap for truth. This is a positive element, a defensive as well as offensive effort that requires forward action. Our calling includes proclaiming the word of the Lord in the spiritual battle for our nation.

Resisting evil is not passive but involves thought and engagement. We do not only avoid participating with evil; we actively oppose it. Proverbs 28:4 notes, “Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked, but such as keep instruction contend with them.”

For those who have yet to realize the implications of what is taking place, I urge you to awaken now! Decide now to join the faithful remnant who pray, witness and resist evil in these last days.

For the remnant believers of America (and beyond), do not grow weary. Many believers have become discouraged. Instead of applying biblical truth, they have become angry and isolated.

Yet Haggai 1:12 shows the power of an obeying remnant:

“Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him. And the people feared the Lord.”

Likewise, be inspired and motivated. Determine to let God work through your efforts to impact lives and speak truth to those around you. Continue to stand in the gap for truth today. {eoa}
