Often when we think of the word, “gift,” what comes to mind is a gift under a Christmas tree or some new gadget given to us as a present. God’s gifts don’t have a price tag and often are intangible but of great value. One gift that God promises us in His Word is peace.
I call it the priceless gift.
The world may promise us peace and happiness but often is unable to deliver. Some of us may never have experienced peace in our life. Others may have had their peace stolen from them through trauma, life experiences such as the death of a loved one, poverty, divorce or misfortune.
Whatever circumstance disturbed our peace and brought discord, there is hope.
Jesus shared with his disciples some powerful words in John 14:27a: “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you.” These powerful words in Scripture should bring excitement to our souls. Jesus Himself through His Holy Spirit is able to give us a divine peace. The peace that God gives is not based upon things or conditions but is rooted in a deep understanding of God’s love for us.
Peace is such a wonderful gift from God. It is able to not only bring us into a place of joy but guard our hearts and minds.
Philippians 4:7: “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will protect your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Personally, I experienced the reality of this Scripture during a really rough season in my life where the circumstances of life could have overwhelmed me. In the face of financial, health and family adversities, I somehow still possessed a great peace and sense of worship. God will do this for you too if you believe in His promise of peace.
There is good news! Jesus is still in the peace-giving business. Peace is priceless for us because Jesus already paid the price for us. John 16:33 says, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”
He has overcome everything the world may try to throw at us. Become an overcomer with our Lord today by receiving His peace by faith.
