Naturopathic Doctor Asks, ‘What Drives Your Choices?’

You might say, “Wait a minute; we are all going to physically die, as that is our destiny. What do my choices matter?”

Part of that statement is indeed true. However, we don’t exactly know the day. As believers, our purpose on this earth is to live every day in a way that exhibits excellent representation of the kingdom from which we came.

It is very interesting that we may not be considering what it means to really live during this life on earth. Let’s look at a couple of Scriptures to analyze this:

“The thief does not come, except to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me'” (John 14:6).

In both of these verses, Jesus talks about giving us “life.” What is this life? Is it life at our future destination in the kingdom of heaven? Or is it life now, right here on earth?

The answer is both. We are to live today like we’re going to live forever while also considering today may be our last day on earth. Now that is a powerful concept.

We would submit to you that many people are making choices that willfully and highly likely shorten their life on this earth, which shortens their ability to fully exhibit God’s plan for them. This is done with a mindset that may be only focused on reaching heaven but not focused on bringing heaven into earth now. Jesus talked about both when He exhibited His model prayer which stated in part, “Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Luke 11:2).

That’s right! We are supposed to live with the intent and purpose of bringing heaven into this earth right now!

Each choice we make that pertains to our physical, emotional and spiritual lives should be based around the reality that what we choose affects the quality of our ability to fulfill God’s purpose for us while here. Likewise, if we live intentionally reckless, expecting God to fix every mistake, we may be falling for the deceptive trap of self-centeredness, which may be described with the following mentality: “I’m going to do whatever makes me happy, since I’m going to die anyway.”

Hopefully, this blog will spark new concepts in regard to choices. Let us carefully weigh out each with intensity, passion and purpose. Your choices (and ours) matter. So much so that each choice is a matter of life and death. {eoa}
