What David and Goliath’s Battle, Liam Neeson, ‘The Black Panther’ and Moses All Have in Common

A key phrase all good film students learn is “inciting incidents.” This phrase means the catalyst for the protagonist to be launched into their destiny as the hero of the story. On a recent episode of Keep It 100 with Sean and Christa Smith on the Charisma Podcast Network, we see that our world may be in the midst of our own inciting incident.

“Inciting incidents reveal divine intention,” Sean says. These moments need something for us to recognize the divine work being done, lest they fall by the wayside as coincidences, she says. Christa says she believes that “right now, we are living in so many inciting moments. … There is an awakening that is happening with people.”

“So many more superhero movies are being made today than ever before. And I really attribute that to all of us want to be a hero, all of us want to have that question answered within us, ‘was I created for more?’ And the answer, when Jesus Christ is Lord of your life, He’s Savior of your life, is an astounding, ‘Yes,'” Christa says.

She links the desire within us as a culture for something more to the very real spiritual battle going on around us. When we recognize the purpose that our lives hold, we begin to step into our God-given destiny. Sean says that “God purposely gives us an inciting incident to highlight, enlarge our distinctives so that we don’t attempt to blend in, but we recognize that our gift is to stand out.”
