Nick Kellis wouldn’t exactly label himself as a prodigal son, like the main character in the movie he wrote, A Walk with Grace. But there are very similar elements between the movie and his life, elements he hopes will move others to strengthen their relationship with Christ.
Kellis spent 20 years in Los Angeles before returning to his hometown of Lima, Ohio, and says he has found redemption in his faith, even through the death of his mother, whom he lost to cancer. A Walk with Grace is the story of a modern-day prodigal son who returned home to confront his broken past.
“I always circle back to community. I think that’s always been so important to me when I was gone,” Kellis told Dr. Steve Greene on a recent episode of Greenelines on the Charisma Podcast Network. “I missed it. But I also think in times of trouble, you clamp down on community and your faith. It’s really what you have—family, community and faith—not necessarily in that order. It’s what you have in a time like this.
“In the movie, the main character, Nate, gets put to task through this wonderful character, Grace, and he is brought back to face his past and do what is right instead of compromising, as he had done most of his life. The message of the film is amazing. With God’s help, the world can indeed be a better place.”
