Kanye West is on a roll creating gospel music, and he shows no signs of stopping. On Christmas Day, he released a new album, Jesus Is Born, recorded by his Sunday Service Choir.
West appears intermittently on the album, but the choir provides the bulk of the music. West’s latest project contains 19 songs, including “Ultralight Beam,” “Balm in Gilead,” “Count Your Blessings” and “Satan, We’re Gonna Tear Your Kingdom Down.”
The latter is a spiritual-warfare-themed declaration to the enemy, warning him that God’s people are getting ready to pray his kingdom down.
“You’ve been building your kingdom all over this land/ Satan, we’re gonna tear your kingdom down/ The preachers are gonna preach your kingdom down/ … The mothers are gonna pray your kingdom down.”
Forbes called Jesus Is Born a “rapturous, honest-to-goodness gospel album, a moving proclamation of faith and a reminder of what its creator can do when he gives his ideas time to incubate.”
The album comes days after West and his choir performed his Christmas-themed opera, “Mary.”
West released his last album, Jesus Is King, in October, featuring gospel-themed songs such as “Every Hour” and “Use This Gospel.” It also included songs focusing on culture and spiritual warfare, such as “Closed on Sunday,” an ode to Chick-fil-A that features a battle cry against Jezebel.
