Christian Zionists Call for Palestinian Authority Defunding

Talk about a match made in hell. Islamist revolutionary group Hamas has formed an alliance with the Palestinian Authority, a group run by Islamist terrorism group Fatah.

The Muslim enemies have a history of killing one another, but joined forces on May 5 in Cairo. The groups are moving to establish a Palestinian state in the West Bank. Now, Christians United for Israel is working overtime to send a clear message to Washington: defund the Palestinian Authority.

Indeed, less than 24 hours after Christians United for Israel distributed an action alert asking members to support calls for the Obama Administration to suspend aid to the Palestinian Authority, more than 32,000 Christian Zionists have sent e-mails to President Obama asking that he “immediately isolate the terrorist organization Hamas by cutting off all U.S. aid to the Palestinian Authority that is now allied with Hamas, and desisting from all efforts to pressure Israel to negotiate with this government.”

“For all intents and purposes, the Fatah-Hamas unity agreement brought Hamas into the Palestinian government,” says David Brog, CUFI’s executive director. “We need not ignore this troubling reality while waiting for the details of who gets what portfolios. If we are serious about isolating Hamas, then we must take firm action—and send clear signals—sooner rather than later. During the 2008 campaign, President Obama committed to isolating Hamas; at this pivotal moment it is imperative that the president back up his words with action.”

In signing this deal, Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had “embraced” an organization that had condemned the American operation against the al-Qaida leader and called him a “great martyr.”

“When he embraces this organization, which is committed to Israel’s destruction and fires rockets on our cities, this is a tremendous setback for peace and a great advancement for terror,” Netanyahu said. “What we hope will happen is that we find peace, and the only way we can make peace is with our neighbors who want peace. Those who want to eliminate us, those who practice terror, are not partners for peace.”
